Pinterest Thursday!

Every Thursday we will be doing a post devoted to help us take an inspiration from Pinterest and put it to good use.

This week is my turn.

My latest Pinterest completion was sewing a tote bag for Aidan to take to preschool. He needed a bag that would fit his folder and his little Elmo backpack wasn't quite cutting it.

I took him to pick out fabric and this is what we chose (I say we because he really wanted Cars fabric, but I just really couldn't indulge him on that one).

Robots!

The completed project

It was fairly simple to follow the tutorial. I say this, but have to admit that my basic sewing skills cause me all kinds of grief when working on projects. I had several ridiculous mishaps figuring this one out, but when all said and done I could whip another one up in no time at all. It is reversible too!

So, what is Pinterest inspiring you to do?

Paper Flower Lamp

The other day I was at Michaels craft store and flipping through a magazine and saw this really cute idea for making an old lamp new and improved. I decided I wanted to try it out
So...I took the boring lampshade from my room and started crafting on it.

All you need is:
-heavyweight drawing paper
-scissors
-a glue gun
-a lampshade that needs some spiffing up

To make the paper flowers all you have to do is draw a circled swirl and cut it out.

They don't have to be perfect swirls but you should try to draw all your swirls around the same size, so the flowers don't turn out in awkwardly different sizes. It took me a few tries to get the size I wanted.

Then you just roll the paper swirl from the outside to the inside tightly

As you get to the inside of the swirl it gets harder to roll and you can cut it off, but it just depends on your preference.

After the swirl is rolled up you release it very slowly so that the flower spreads out. When it spreads out to the desired size hot glue the side of paper flower together. Then put lots of hot glue on the back and attach to lampshade. You should probably hold it on the lampshade for a few mins. so the glue has time to bond. It should look like this.

And then you will have a finished product that looks like this:

Chunky Monkey Ice Cream

During one of my recent obsessive sessions with Pinterest, I came across the recipe for Chunky Monkey Ice Cream. It's basically frozen bananas, a couple tablespoons of p.b., some chocolate chips, and walnuts. You can add or take away from the recipe as long as you've got the bananas.

I was so excited to try it that I immediately threw 4 bananas into the freezer. And wouldn't you know, just this night, I threw those bananas into the food processor, dumped the concoction into some bowls, and we all devoured it in minutes. The kids loved it and I didn't feel bad about giving them second helpings because it was so basic and um, shall I say healthy.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

What I've been working on...

...a little this and a little that, but mostly just trying to finish up loose ends.

Working on making some fun crocheted headbands. What do you think? Yay or nay?

Also, finally finished my baby tutu and hat set. This would be a great photo prop and I so wish I had a sleepy little newborn to put this on.

Love the ruffles, love the colors. This set will be available in the shop in the next few days and will be a made to order piece too. Perfect for those baby photo shoots!

For those of you who are just checking out our blog for the first time, "hello and thanks for stopping by," we are a work in progress, and will be sharing some of our vision for this blog and shop as we go.

Be looking for a fun giveaway in a few days!
